The village of KIMPOKO is situated approximately 45 km EAST of KINSHASA DRC and was established in 2000. The village was built and developed to assist and house 100 civil-war widows. These widows are the wives of fallen Congolese military force members (Forces Armées de la Republique Democratiqe du Congo. Jesuit Priests established the village but for some unknown reason they moved out of the village and left the widows and families to their own devices. After a few months, nuns from the local parish, Les sœurs Curatrices Missionnaires de Saint-Luc, took over the role of supporting the villagers and became mentors to its inhabitants. In 2006, MONUSCO was approached for support and the Canadian military component and its members quickly responded to the needs of the village. Canadian military members initiated various Quick Impact Projects (QIPs), including building 60 cement block homes, building water wells, and paying for the costs of tuition for the children of the widows. This village is now doing very well. It is sad for us to go, but the MONUSCO mission is taking us from Kinshasa to Goma. With this move we will bring our energy and help to support the World Orphans Kids. Stay tuned for the link to the new Canadian military endeavor.
Le village de KIMPOKO, situé à 45 km à l’est de KINSHASA, a été établi en 2000. Il a été conçu pour accueillir environ 100 veuves de militaires congolais ainsi qu’environ 200 enfants, la plupart étant des orphelins. Des prêtres jésuites ont obtenu des fonds pour la construction des premières 60 maisons. Ces prêtres ont également géré un orphelinat jusqu’en 2005, date à laquelle ils ont retiré leur soutien. Au bout de quelque mois, des religieuses, attachées à une église locale (Les sœurs Curatrices Missionnaires de Saint-Luc) se sont chargées de l’orphelinat. Depuis lors, sœur Ghislaine a bien voulu guider les villageois de KIMPOKO et leur servir de mentor. Les militaires Canadien ont été approché par la soeur, et ils ont établi des projets, notalement la construction de maisons, la construction des puits et le support des enfants pour leur education. Le village se porte bien maintenant. Nous sommes très heureux d'avoir pu leurs venir en aide et de cheminer avec eux. Par contre, les changements de notre mission MONUSCO, nous permetra de partager avec un autre groupe, soit les World Orphans Kids - un orphelina a Goma.
